Inside our training

A clear structure for difficult moments.

Our incident response scenarios rehearse a structured approach, so managers aren't working it out for the first time under pressure.

  1. 01

    Make safe

Remove immediate risk. Stop safety-critical duties such as driving or operating machinery.

  2. 02

    Observe the facts

Note what you can actually see and hear, not what you suspect.

  3. 03

    Talk privately

Approach a difficult conversation calmly, respectfully and without accusation.

  4. 04

    Follow procedure

Apply your company policy and escalate to HR or specialist support as appropriate.

  5. 05

    Record and review

Document observations and actions taken, then review what can be learned.

A simplified illustration of a structured response. Always follow your own organisation's policy.
Our principle

Better-informed decisions, not diagnoses.

Our training is practical and risk-focused. It helps managers understand what they can reasonably observe, what they cannot conclude and when specialist support may be needed.

What a manager can observe

  • ✓Smell of alcohol
  • ✓Slurred speech or unsteadiness
  • ✓Sudden changes in behaviour or mood
  • ✓Patterns of lateness or absence
  • ✓Near misses, errors or incidents

What they cannot conclude

  • ✕That someone has taken drugs or alcohol
  • ✕What substance, or how much
  • ✕A diagnosis or level of impairment
  • ✕That there is no medical explanation
Indicators alone do not prove drug or alcohol use. Good training teaches the difference.
